About Us
The MQ Centre for Quantum Engineering (CQE) brings together experts to design 2nd generation quantum machines that take real world constraints into account like noise, finite control resources, and even general relativity.
We investigate fundamental properties of quantum mechanics, such as quantum entanglement, superposition and quantum interference, to engineer new types of functions which surpass, and may indeed, be impossible, using the classical laws of physics. These new functions include quantum sensors, quantum simulators, and quantum computers.
Collectively this science falls under the name Quantum Engineering since it harnesses the laws of quantum mechanics, learned by fundamental research, for inventive, practical applications like quantum magnetometers and gravimeters, and quantum software programmed for future quantum computers.
